Episode 15: Abraham Alexander

Abraham Alexander invites us along his journey of grief, faith, and discovery. From the loss of his mother, to an injury that would derail his soccer career, Abraham Alexander draws on his past to bring a sense of hope, belonging, and gratitude in his music. Today, Alexander turns tragedy into triumph as he explores the genres of blues, soul, and rock to carve his own path.

The pressure of self-discovery rang true at a young age for Abraham Alexander. Born in Athens, Greece, Alexander moved to Texas at 11 years old. While growing up in Athens, the racial divide made it difficult to make friends and pushed Alexander into isolation. Although these moments of isolation were difficult, they became profound moments of self-discovery. After moving to the states, Alexander immediately found community in his soccer team at Texas Wesleyan University. For the first time in his life, he fit in.

But it wasn’t until Alexander tore his ACL while playing college soccer that he would pick up a guitar. No longer being able to find refuge in the sport he loved, he found himself back in isolation. It was in these moments that music became an escape for him — a way to express himself in a way that soccer could not.

Abraham Alexander’s music touches on his experiences. From the racial divide of Athens to tearing his ACL, Alexander's story has made him who he is today. While his story has been riddled with heartache and disappointment, Alexander is undoubtedly grateful. Alexander’s story has made him appreciative of where he is and serves as a reminder to stay true to himself. His authenticity and optimism has inspired him to create a sound that is genuinely and uniquely Abraham Alexander.
